SOCIAL STUDIES
The Social Studies Department at Washington offers an engaging curriculum designed to foster a deep understanding of history, geography, and cultural awareness.
In 6th grade, students explore Minnesota Studies, where they dive into the state's history, geography, and diverse cultures, while developing a strong sense of local identity.
In 7th grade, the focus shifts to American Studies, guiding students through the history of the United States, from its early foundations to modern-day challenges. 7th grade students also complete History Day projects where they have the opportunity to compete at a district level.
The 8th grade curriculum emphasizes Global Studies, broadening students' perspectives to explore world geography, current events, and the interconnectedness of global societies. Together, we work to build critical thinking skills and provide students with a well-rounded view of the world, that helps them become informed and active citizens.
